מקרה מוות נוסף של סטנלה מפוספסת, בתוך פחות משבועיים: לאחר הדיווח העזתי ב־2 בינואר על גופת הסטנלה הגיע דיווח נוסף אמש, הפעם מחוף אולגה. הדולפינה, באורך של כשני מטרים, נפלטה לחוף כשהיא במצוקה. צוות רשות הטבע והגנים שהגיע למקום הביא אותה למרכז הארצי להצלת צבי ים במכמורת, בניסיון להציל אותה. הדולפינה הוכנסה לבריכת אישוש במרכז, אך לצערנו היא לא שרדה.
ד"ר יניב לוי, מנהל המרכז שבדק את הדולפינה ציין כי מדובר בפרט בוגר ורזה מאוד. "דולפיני סטנלה מפוספסת נחשבים למין קטן יחסית של דולפינים מבחינת המימדים, החיים בים הפתוח ולא מתקרבים לאזור מדף היבשת. כשדולפין ממין זה מגיע לאזור חופי, זה סימן ברור כי מדובר בחיה מצוקה הנמצאת במצב בריאותי קשה".
ד"ר דני מוריק, ראש החוג לביוטכנולוגיות כחולות וחקלאות ימית מקיימת בבית הספר למדעי הים ע"ש צ'רני באוניברסיטת חיפה וראש תחום פטולוגיה ימית בתחנת מוריס קהאן לחקר הים, ביצע את הנתיחה במרכז ההצלה, בשיתוף ד"ר יניב לוי, מנהל המרכז, ויאלי מבורך, דוקטורנטית לביולוגיה ימית באוניברסיטת חיפה ועובדת ביחידה הימית ברשות הטבע והגנים, במטרה לגלות את סיבת המוות.
לדבריו, הדולפינה "היתה במצב הקשה ביותר שיצא לי לראות ב־20 השנים האחרונות. במהלך הנתיחה מצאנו כמות גדולה מאוד של טפילים ממינים שונים, שאנו מכירים מנתיחות עבר של סטנלות. סיבת המוות היא כנראה מחלה כרונית זיהומית - בסבירות גבוהה מעורבות של וירוס הדיסטמפר שהוכח בעבר שגורם לתמותה במין זה של דולפינים".
ד"ר מיה אלסר מדלפיס: "מאז 1993 ועד היום היו 33 מקרי החפה של דולפינים ממין סטנלה. 15 מתוכם הגיעו לחוף כשהם חיים ומתו זמן קצר לאחר מכן"
הווירוס הקטלני פגע בשנים האחרונות בדולפינים ברחבי הים התיכון וגרם למותם של אלפים, ביניהם גם בדולפינים ממין סטנלה מפוספסת.
דגימות רבות נלקחו מהדולפינה ויישלחו למעבדות להמשך פיענוח.
