The association's researchers, who have been monitoring the marine mammals off the coast of the country since the beginning of the 90s of the 20th century, defined the species of whales living in the easternmost part of the Mediterranean, and in the Gulf of Eilat. The species were attributed to one of three categories: "inhabiting" species, which maintain a stable population that reproduces in the area; "visiting" species, which stay in the area temporarily, or seasonally; and "stray" species, whose very presence in our region is extremely rare.
