The Delphis Association holds volunteer meetings once a quarter. This time, the meeting will feature Kim Kobo's lecture, "Reproductive Characteristics of Female Common Dolphins Along the Coasts of Israel." Please note: The meeting is open to registered association members only! You must arrive at the venue from the southern entrance of Sdot Yam, and inform the guard at the entrance that you are coming to the Delphis meeting (no entrance fee required!).

About the event
The lecture "Reproductive Characteristics of Female Common Dolphins Along the Israeli Coastline" by researcher Kim Kobo from the Maurice Kahn Marine Research Station at the University of Haifa will address a topic that has been widely studied worldwide, but has been almost never studied in the Mediterranean Sea.
The Mediterranean population of the common dolphin is a genetically distinct subpopulation from the original population in the Atlantic Ocean. As a coastal species, the dolphins are significantly affected by human activities: pollution, overfishing, and habitat destruction and thinning, which can directly affect pup survival and the reproductive success of females, especially in a challenging area such as the eastern Mediterranean.
This study used data collected over the years, as well as data from the coast of Israel. The data also included 13,585 images of dolphin dorsal fins. The study examined the birth rate, fertility, breeding season, intervals between births, weaning age,…
