She just needs a place to lay her head
The Mediterranean monk seal - one of the rarest mammals in the world - has returned to the shores of Israel after being almost completely extinct in the region. But it still doesn't have a home here.
The Delphis Association set itself the goal of restoring the Rosh Hanikra caves that were once used by seals in Israel - and then... just two months after launching the project and presenting it to the public,
The monk seal Yulia appeared on the shores of Israel.
So far, thanks to you, one natural cave has already been restored, but to restore the large cave, which is especially suitable for giving birth - and so that Yulia and her friends have a place to return to - we need you!

Just a decade ago, the Mediterranean monk seal was declared a critically endangered species and one of the 12 rarest mammals in the world. Its population numbered about 500 individuals - and models predicted a greater than 50 percent chance of extinction within just three generations!
But, contrary to predictions, the seal population has grown and is currently estimated at about 700 individuals, about 400 of which live off the coasts of Greece, Cyprus, and Turkey.
So the population in the north is recovering - largely thanks to the enormous restoration efforts. In Cyprus, the restoration has led to an incredible boom in the seal population, and in one of the restored caves, researchers even got to see the birth of a new seal pup live.
So Delphis researchers have reason for optimism!
And most importantly - to prepare and create the appropriate conditions for the return of Mediterranean monk seals to Israel.
