National Geographic Israel's award-winning in-house photographer and longtime Delphis volunteer, Dafna Ben Nun , conducts photo expeditions around the world and documents nature in all its glory, with her focus on animals in their natural habitat.
On one of her trips to South Africa, in 2012, Ben Nun documented this impressive large fin whale.
The humpback whale is known for its acrobatic leaps above the water's surface and its unique song, which can be heard vast distances below the sea's surface.
Giant fin whales migrate thousands of kilometers each year - between their feeding grounds in the cold waters of the Antarctic and their warm breeding grounds in Africa, the islands of the Indian Ocean and South America. Off the coast of South Africa, rare spectacles of giant fin whales using spectacular cooperative hunting strategies can be witnessed.
The beautiful photography reminds us of the impressive power of the marine world - which is so important that we preserve it.This work is being sold as part of the "Artists for Marine Mammals" fundraiser. All proceeds are dedicated to the continued protection of marine mammals in Israel.
